We are offering you, the musclecar owner, an opportunity to prove to the musclecar world that your car not only passes our normal tech inspection at the dragstrip, but also a rigorous, NHRA-style, engine teardown. We want to reemphasize that this is a totally VOLUNTARY program! If you have nothing to prove, and you don't want to subject your car to this thorough inspection, don't bother! Just come to the race as you normally would, pass our regular tech inspection, and have a fun weekend of racing. For the serious owner, with a well running musclecar who wants to prove his or her car is stock, having your car Certified Stock is available to you! Because of the time-consuming nature of this inspection, we will only accept a limited number of cars by pre-registration only! You can pre-register by contacting us via telephone, regular mail, or e-mail. We will need etails about your car, and a commitment from you that you WILL be there. We will then send you information for hotel accommodations, directions, times, etc. Certification will be held just prior to the September race, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Certification is performed before the race so that everyone knows who the Certified Stock cars are during the event. The cars that PASS this inspection will get a PSMCDR™ "Certified Stock" window decal to display at the race. The car's Certification is only good for the race that IMMEDIATELY follows the inspection! Cars that are accepted for certification have to arrive at the designated location with the intake, one head (of your choice), and exhaust manifold already removed! Engines should be drained of fluids, and surfaces cleaned and ready for inspection. Obviously, an enclosed trailer will be the most practical way to do this and keep the engine sterile while in transit. Having the engine apart before you arrive will speed the process so that all cars can be back together and running before the day's end. We can't stress enough to arrive prepared and be ready! (Bring tools, gaskets, sealers, antifreeze, oil, filter, etc...) The shop we are using is fully equipped to handle just about any situation that may arise. We will perform an NHRA-style inspection where the engine will be checked for proper castings, part numbers, etc. We will be using the NHRA tech bulletins for specifications only, including head cc's, deck height, bore, stroke, cam lift, etc. NHRA allows the use of superceded castings and part numbers, such as heads, which could give the car an advantage over using its original parts. WE WILL NOT ALLOW THIS! The PSMCDR™ rules still apply requiring all engine casting numbers to be correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed. Again, we will be using the NHRA bulletins for various engine numbers (carb., intake, heads, etc), combustion chamber cc's, piston to deck clearance, proper piston configuration, lift at the valve, valve sizes, valve head configurations, valve job, cylinder bore, stroke, head gasket thickness, etc. You are allowed to blueprint your engine to these NHRA specifications only. No NHRA engine building tricks allowed. Just go to their website at http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/engine/index.html to find the blueprint specs for your engine. All aspects of the engine (including castings and components) must retain all factory characteristics. Attention: In order to pass Certification, we will be requiring that camshafts have correct intake and exhaust duration too! We may be checking your camshaft's duration at .050" lift. This is to prevent the engines from being over-cammed, but more importantly, from being under-cammed! If you have a question about your cam's duration, please call ASAP! We will be checking the intake manifold, intake/exhaust ports, and exhaust manifolds for porting, re-contouring, and gasket matching. None are allowed. We may cc the intake and exhaust ports since some engine builders disguise their ports by acid etching them to look like original castings after they've been reworked. Exhaust manifolds will be given the same scrutiny for enlarged passages and installation of flow directors. Once an engine passes certification, it has to be reassembled in the shop under the supervision of the tech inspectors. After it is together, the inspector will seal key engine bolts with a special paint. Breaking the seal anytime during the race is grounds for revoking certification. If a seal has to be broken at the race, let's say to re-lash valves, or to re-torque the head bolts, it must be done with a tech inspector present. The tech will then re-seal the bolts. With the engine back together, but before the carburetor and spark plugs are installed, a compression test will be performed on every cylinder. This will reveal any inconsistencies on the side of the engine that was not torn apart. Finally, when the engine is buttoned up and running, we will perform a vacuum test. The same PSMCDR™ rules apply. All aspects of the teardown will be documented on spec sheets, copies of which will be given to the owners to have at the race. Certified Stock cars will serve as benchmarks, by which the performance of similar, uncertified cars can be measured. The location where the Certified Stock inspection will take place is conveniently located within an hour of the racetrack with hotel accommodations nearby. Certified Stock cars will run the program no different from the other participants. They will be paired with their closest competitor, Certified or not. Certified Stock is NOT a separate class. Any questions or concerns, contact us. Again, this is a totally voluntary program. If you want to have your car "Certified Stock" for the September race, you must pre-register by June 30! There is NO fee to have your car Certified Stock! Any details not covered on this sheet will be given to you by mail, over the phone, or by e-mail. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
